Volunteer Opportunities


Fall Internship Opportunity
Want to try something new? Try an internship this fall semester with the American Lung Association in a fun, relaxed environment. We are looking for a university student who want hands-on experience in the ins and outs of a small business, public relations, communications, health education or media relations!

You’ll work directly on the promotion and development of the American Lung Association in our community. This is the perfect opportunity for you if you’re interested in gaining real-world experience and the chance to build your references.

Intern at the ALA and learn:
Small Business: learn real life budgeting, including budget creation
Public Relations: community education/involvement
Media Relations: write press releases & newspaper stories; develop relationships with local media; sponsorship solicitation
Communications: cultivate existing relationships to encourage/promote participation of ALA events
Health Education: Help health educators around New Mexico deliver lung health and smoking cessation programs

Requirements:
Creative students with motivation and proficiency in both Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel are excellent candidates. This internship is unpaid. We are looking for a commitment of approximately 10 hours per week; however, hours are flexible to accommodate school schedule and may vary from week to week. Office Volunteer

Help us generate letters to our donors, greet visitors, answer phones and provide general support for the office staff. This opportunity is open year-round any hours you have available to commit Mondays- Fridays.

Our Special Events
We have several special events throughout the year such as our Las Cruces Respiratory Rally and Asthma-Lung Health Walk, and Asthma Walk. We are looking for volunteers to help us with the logistics of these events. Please contact our office to find out how you and your group can help!

Community Volunteer
Help us serve our community! There are many community opportunities available, from becoming trained as a Freedom from Smoking facilitator, working with our Open Airways or Adult Asthma programs, or distributing information about the American Lung Association in the community (physicians offices, auto shops, etc.). These opportunities run throughout the year.

Committee Volunteer
Help us produce our great community events! Get involved with PEAK THE PLAZA, our stair climb on February 20, 2010 where people go vertical at the tallest building in the State of New Mexico, or our First Annual HONOREE DINNER honoring Senator Tom Udall in April 2010. Creative and energetic people who have time and talent are just what we are looking for!

Share Your Story
Has lung disease affected you or your family? Have you benefited from the programs offered by the American Lung Association of New Mexico? If so, we need you! Come with us to community events, schools and other organizations to tell your story.

Regional Board
This committee is so special it has its own category! Join our Regional Board. Work with staff and your peers from the community to help shape the direction of the American Lung Association of New Mexico. This committee meets four to six times throughout the year.
