Donate Your Vehicle

You can get more mileage out of your donated vehicle than you think! It’s easy and painless, and you avoid the cost and hassle of trying to sell it yourself.
When you donate your car, truck, or van to the American Lung Association of New Mexico, your donation is tax deductible. Any type of vehicle qualifies, even if it isn’t running anymore. You can even donate motor homes, motorcycles and boats!
We manage our own Vehicle Donation Program; and all proceeds from your donated vehicle will be used to prevent lung disease and promote lung health right here in New Mexico.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take for you to pick up the vehicle?
Upon receiving your title in our office, you will be contacted by a towing service within 1-3 business days to schedule a pickup time. All vehicles are towed at no charge to you.
What types of vehicles will you take?
Automobiles, pickup trucks, recreational vehicles, boats, motorcycles and vans in any condition can all be accepted. Please call us at 505-265-0732 to find out more.
How is the tax deduction determined?
Claimed Value up to $500
If you are claiming up to $500 for your vehicle, the IRS will allow you to arrive at that figure on your own.
Claimed Value Greater Than $500
If you are claiming over $500 for your vehicle, the IRS will allow you to claim the gross proceeds from the American Lung Association's sale of your vehicle.
All donated vehicles are sold at auction. We work hard to secure the highest bid possible since this benefits both you as the donor and the American Lung Association’s local programs. By selling vehicles at auction, we hope to secure a purchase price that is as close to the “fair market value” as possible. The American Lung Association will mail you a donor acknowledgement within 30 days of the sale stating the gross proceeds.

Call us at 505-265-0732 or email vdp@lungnewmexico.org. You will receive detailed instructions and two simple forms. Return the completed forms to us, along with the signed vehicle title.
